Objectives

We have managed to renovate what used to be offices of Prochorus Community Developments to two facilities; Prochorus continues to function at the top level and a baby home(or place of safety) for orphans and vulnerable children on the ground floor – with two separate entrances.

Modern architecture has been applied to enlarge the house with second hand shipping containers. This is not only a “green” way of building, it is also a much cheaper and quicker way to get the job done. This house will be the first of its kind in the greater Stellenbosch region and we hope to set the standard for future building projects.

The baby home can accommodate 15 babies at a time. It is our goal not to keep babies for longer than 6 months, because the home will only act as a safe place, where we stabilise the babies, see that the necessary medical examinations get done, do all the statutory work necessary for adoption and make sure that every baby entering the house, gets a good home and a loving family.

At the moment there is no baby home or place of safety for babies or toddlers in the whole of Kayamandi. Kayamandi has 33 000 residents, with an HIV statistic of 17.8%. There is an enormous need for such a home to serve the people of Kayamandi and the bigger Stellenbosch region.

We believe that the enlarging of the existing house to make place for a baby home will give a vast amount of babies the opportunity to grow up in a loving family and save them from dying on the streets. Not only will babies lives be saved but the project will also help with job creation, employing 4 permanent staff members in the home.

We have now opened our doors for children 0-6years of age.
